Privacy Policy

Story Builder is built local-first. Your writing belongs to you, stays on your device by default, and the analysis runs on your own machine. This policy explains the data we do handle, and the choices you have.

The short version

  • Your writing stays on your device by default. Local analysis never leaves your Mac.
  • Cloud features are optional. Cloud sync is end-to-end encrypted, so we can’t read your manuscripts.
  • Cloud analysis sends only the text you choose to our AI provider, which doesn’t use it to train its models.
  • We collect only the account info needed to run your account — no third-party analytics, ads, or tracking.
  • We never sell your data, and we don’t use it to advertise to you.
  • You can delete your synced files anytime, and delete your whole account whenever you ask.

1. Who we are

Story Builder is a writing application for macOS and iOS, made by Yunacaba Inc. (“Yunacaba,” “we,” “us”), based in New York, USA. This policy applies to the Story Builder apps, the reviewer and read-only apps, the reviewer web app, and this website (collectively, the “Service”).

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you create a Story Builder account, we collect your email address, a password (stored only as a salted hash — we never see the plaintext), and an optional display name. This is used to sign you in and to enable cloud features.

Your writing and content

Your manuscripts, notes, comments, version history, and analysis results are stored on your device. If you turn on optional cloud sync, this content is also stored in our cloud in end-to-end encrypted form — meaning it is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, so neither we nor our hosting provider can read your manuscript content.

Cloud analysis content

Story Builder’s analysis runs locally on your device by default. If you choose to use cloud analysis, the specific text you submit for analysis is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to be processed and returned. This text is used to generate your result and is not used to train any AI models. We have not enabled a zero-retention arrangement at launch, so the provider may retain this text briefly to provide the service and monitor for misuse, and longer only where required by law. Cloud analysis is optional and only runs when you explicitly enable it or request it.

Usage and diagnostic data

Story Builder does not currently collect analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting data. If we add aggregated, anonymized usage or crash reporting in the future (for example, through Google Firebase), it will be limited to technical information such as device model, operating system and app version, and crash logs — never your writing — and you’ll be able to turn it off in the app’s settings. We’ll update this policy before any such collection begins.

Purchases

Story Builder is sold as a one-time purchase, with optional subscriptions, through the Apple App Store. Apple processes your payment — we do not receive or store your payment card details. We receive confirmation of your purchase to validate your license and provide the features you bought.

Communications

If you contact us for support, we keep your message and contact details to respond. If you sign up for our waitlist or product updates on this website, we collect your email address through our email provider (Loops) to send you those updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

5. Local-first by design

The default for Story Builder is privacy. Your work lives on your device, and analysis runs there too — offline, with nothing uploaded. Cloud sync, cloud analysis, and backups are features you choose to turn on. When they’re off, your writing never leaves your machine.

We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate the Service. Each is bound by contractual and legal obligations to protect your data and to provide a level of protection consistent with this policy, and may only process data on our instructions:

7. AI processing

We want to be explicit about this: local analysis happens entirely on your device and sends nothing to us or any third party. Cloud analysis is the only feature that shares your text with a third-party AI service (Anthropic), and it does so only for the text you choose to analyze, only when you’ve enabled it. That text is used solely to produce your analysis result and is not used to train AI models. Because we haven’t enabled a zero-retention agreement at launch, the provider may retain it for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring, and longer only where required by law.

8. Data retention

We keep account information for as long as your account is active. You can delete cloud-synced files at any time — individually, or all at once by deleting your account. When you delete your account, any synced files you haven’t already removed remain available for you to download for 30 days, after which they are permanently deleted from our systems. Support messages are kept as long as needed to help you and for our records. Content stored only on your device stays there until you delete it or remove the app.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. We do not sell or “share” personal information as those laws define it. To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@yunacaba.ai.

10. Deleting your data

You can delete your cloud-synced files at any time in the app. To delete your entire account, email privacy@yunacaba.ai and we’ll process it; any synced files you haven’t already removed stay available for you to download for 30 days, then are permanently deleted. To remove content stored only on your device, delete it in the app or remove the app.

11. Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, end-to-end encryption for cloud-synced content, hashed passwords, and access controls that limit who can reach our systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to keep the local-first default that means most of your data never leaves your device in the first place.

12. Children

Story Builder is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at privacy@yunacaba.ai and we will delete it.

13. International users

We are based in the United States and process data there. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. and other countries where we or our providers operate, with appropriate safeguards in place.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll provide a more prominent notice (such as in the app or by email). Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
